Advanced First Aid Class at Barre Fire Dept.

Advanced First Aid Class

at

Barre Fire Dept. (Rt. 98 at Barre Center)

Cost: $125 includes book

Time: Tues & Thurs, 7-9pm; Sat, 6 hrs

Dates: September 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 & October 2, 7, 14, 16, 21, 23 plus 1 Saturday (TBD)

This class covers a basic understanding of the human body, assessment skills, AED/CPR, bleeding, wounds & wound care, bandaging, head and spinal injuries, chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries, bone, joint and muscle injuries and splinting. Additionally, sudden illnesses such as heart attack, stroke, angina, fainting, seizures, poisoning bites and stings, cold and heat related emergencies and more will be covered.

The class will touch on moving victims, disaster preparedness, first aid supplies, as well as some medication information such as nitroglycerin, oral glucose and epinephrine.

This class gives a good working knowledge for the beginning student, that could either be a good foundation to go onto other EMS related courses, or have a sufficient amount of knowledge to handle themselves appropriately in an emergency. This class would also be helpful to any responder or officer who finds themselves on scene of an EMS call.
