ECMC policy change on EMS equipment

posted Sep 7, 2017, 2:02 PM by Lake Plains Admin
A new policy has come out on equipment left at ECMC. Please read the following policy to understand. Thanks:

Dear EMS Community:

On the morning of Thursday, September 7th all EMS equipment on premises at the Erie County Medical Center was taken to the Erie County Fire Training Academy (3359 Broadway in Cheektowaga). Erie County Emergency Services is inventorying all of the equipment and will reach out to services so they may arrange to pick-up equipment from the Erie County Fire Training Academy.

Moving forward, ECMC has implemented the following procedure regarding EMS equipment:
1. EMS equipment will be returned to the transporting service before the transporting service leaves the hospital. It is ECMC’s expectation that the transport crew will take the equipment with them when they leave ECMC.
2. In the exceptionally rare instance when EMS equipment cannot be immediately returned to the transport crew (i.e. traction split, etc.), ECMC will make one effort to contact each service when the equipment is available for pick-up. Any equipment that is not retrieved within 30 days will be discarded.
3. In the event that the EMS equipment applied to the patient is NOT the equipment of the transporting service, the expectation remains that the transporting agency will take the equipment and return it to the appropriate service.
4. ECMC staff are available to assist with the cleaning of equipment before EMS leaves the hospital if needed.

ECMC wishes to thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding with this change.
